Why Should I...?

Improve your Quality of Life

A question often asked when discussing Chiropractic is... Why? Why is that important? I live fine now… and will it really help?

In a word - maintenance. When your car is running well, you still take it into the shop to have the oil changed, buy new tires as the tread wears, clean the air filters, get a proper alignment, etc. And sometimes when the vehicle is in the shop, the mechanics find signs of more significant issues that if fixed early, can prevent more expensive fixes or even engine failure down the road.

Chiropractors are similar to mechanics in this way - overall, we help to attain and sustain a healthy system, keeping your body ‘running smoothly’ and keeping our eyes out for potential signs of significant problems so they can be handled before becoming serious. Our specialty is alignments (obviously), so we’re definitely your first call if you hit a ‘pothole’, but we can also help keep your system in an optimal state to handle that pothole smoothly, and with less complications after the fact.

Some examples of daily potholes - cell phones, having wallets in our back pockets, over-large purses weighing down on one shoulder, and so many more! Our bodies are designed to handle these stresses, of course - the repetition of the stresses slowly wears on our body’s ability to handle them well, though.

Cell phones constantly have our heads forward and down, straining our necks and upper backs, rounding our shoulders forward, and impinging on blood flow to our arms, hands, and head in one fell swoop. All of this contributes to carpal tunnel, migraines, respiratory complications, and more - and we’re not likely to stop using our cell phones anytime soon, so we need some support and correction there.

A wallet in the back pocket causes one hip to tilt higher than the other while sitting, which puts our pelvis and low back on an incline - one hip too low, one hip too high - and the muscles in our low back spasm and cramp trying to level things out unsuccessfully. Removing the wallet is a vital first step, and having a chiropractor help rebalance and provide exercises to restrengthen is a wise idea to ensure the body adapts back well, with no new complications.

A too-heavy purse not only strains the neck and shoulder where the strap sits, but also tenses muscles in the back and side opposite of that shoulder, as the body attempts to counter-lever the weight through to the other hip. Again, shifting to a smaller/lighter bag is the first step, and correcting the muscle and skeletal imbalance your body adopted as a result is the next step to bring your system back into balance.

In short, Chiropractic is an excellent way to maintain our bodies in the face of stressors we don’t even consider in our daily lives, and regular Chiropractic care helps keep our systems balanced and less stressed in the day-to-day.
